Arts Events Around Upstate New York:

• The University of Rochester’s Students’ Association will host a celebration of art and music today at Station 55. 15 bands and performers are on the set to play at ArtAwake as visitors admire the artwork of over 70 different painters, photographers, sculptors and other artists. The event is slated to start at 4 p.m. and end at 2 a.m. Food will be served as well.

• Sara Bareilles headlines the 4th Annual Women in Music Concert at Syracuse University this weekend. The Goldstein Auditorium in the Schine Student Center will play host to a celebration of musical women, at Syracuse and beyond. Syracuse women will open for Bareilles, starting at 8 p.m. tomorrow.

• Dancers performing both on Broadway and Off-Broadway will come together to put on the ultimate tap dance show this weekend. Dr. Jimmy Slyde and Dianna “Lady Di” Walker will be among the highly respected and Tony-nominated cast members of Walking in Time performing at Ithaca’s State Theatre on Saturday. The tapping starts at 8 p.m.

• The Pacifica String Quartet will be in the Lippes Concert Hall in the University at Buffalo’s Slee Hall this Sunday at 7 p.m. As part of the Slee-Beethoven String Quartet Cycle, the Pacifica String Quartet will be will be playing the master’s Quartet in A Major, Op. 18, No. 5 and Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 130. The Quartet has won several awards and performs all over the world, so catch them while they’re near by.

Arts Events Around the Ivies:

• Come to the Penn Museum on Saturday to experience Indian culture through learning and entertainment. Hello India! includes dance performances, film screenings, a fashion show, food and cooking demonstrations, arts and crafts and a yoga workshop. With lectures and presentations, museum visitors will learn a lot about Indian culture. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Penn Museum will be Indian culture central.

• Tired of nighttime concerts that end too late for you to enjoy them all the way through? Check out Yale’s Concerto Afternoon at Sudler Recital Hall this Saturday. With three students on the violin, viola and cello, the music should be pleasant to listen to. The show starts at a reasonable hour — 4 p.m. — so you can stay awake the whole time.

• This weekend, Columbia presents the two-day Society For Ethnomusicology: Mid-Atlantic Chapter Annual Meeting. Ethnomusicology, the study of the cultural aspects of music, will take over Davis Auditorium in the Schapiro Center starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Special presentations, a film screening and a concert will all be part of the festivities.

• Guitarist William Ghezzi will perform at Faulkner Auditorium in Dartmouth’s Hopkins Center on Sunday. Ghezzi, who works at the Dartmouth library, also gives private guitar lessons and was once president of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society. The performance starts at 4 p.m.
