April 10, 2008 - 11:00pmArts Events in Upstate New York:
• Are you ready to get fired up? Three furnaces and an Ice Pyrotechnic Performance will be included in Binghamton’s all-day Invitational Iron Pouring event today. Between the sculptures and the pyrotechnic show, this event is the epitome of arts and entertainment.
• David Frumkin and George Kobas, who play the violin, mandolin, two guitars and a slide guitar between the two of them, will visit Ithaca this weekend. The duo will be at Danby Town Hall, located at 1830 Danby Rd (96B), from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. They will perform their unique renditions of jazz classics as well as a number or their own compositions.
• April 1st may have been over a week ago but that won’t stop the Geva Comedy Group from performing two installments of their April Fools show this weekend. With a show each tonight and tomorrow night — both starting at 10:30 p.m. — you can experience double the laughter this weekend at Rochester’s Geva Theatre Center. Anyone who didn’t get all their April Fools’ Day jokes in last week, make sure to redeem your lost laughter some time tonight or tomorrow.
• This weekend, go check out The Wit’s End Players performing comedian Steve Martin’s Off-Broadway comedy “Picasso at the Lapin Agile.” Performances will be at the New Times Theater at NYS Fairgrounds in Solvay, about 10 minutes from Syracuse, tonight at 8 p.m., tomorrow at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Arts Events Around the Ivies:
• Happy 150th Birthday Harvard Glee Club! Tonight, Sanders Theatre will play host to the “Harvard Glee Club 150th Anniversary Concert.” Head over to celebrate the tradition, while also listening to some awesome music. The show starts at 8 p.m. and after 150 years of waiting, you don’t want to be late.
• You have two chances this weekend to see Lion in the Grass, Columbia’s Bluegrass Band. They will be playing a late night party set midnight to 1 a.m. tonight, and from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Both performances are part of Columbia Days. Go see for yourself whether or not Columbia Days are better than Cornell Days.
• Don’t let its name fool you. Tomorrow’s “Origami for Kids” at UPenn’s Morris Arboretum will be a fun time for even the most mature and sophisticated adults. Not only will visitors learn how to turn flat piece of paper into magnificent works of art with just a few folds, but there will be storytelling and music as well. The event starts at 11 a.m. — don’t cut it too close.
• This Saturday, the Princeton University Art Museum will host An “Educated Eye: An After Hours Event” from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Similar to our own Johnson Museum’s After Hours event, the festivities will include food, beverages and music. There will also be tours of the museum going on throughout the night.
