A month or so ago, I was browsing a newsstand in JFK Airport looking for an enticing magazine to read on a quick flight to San Diego. Bored by all of the fashion magazines with the same exact articles (couture in the recession) and news magazines with the same exact cover (Mr. or Mrs. Obama), I wished for a magazine that had unique and engaging content, content that I actually wanted to read. My hope with the new Eclipse is that it will fill this void, by providing interesting content that Sun readers look forward to each week.

Interestingly, the magazine I ended up buying for the flight was the issue of Radar that named Cornell the second most overrated college in America, the same article that inspired this week’s cover story. Check out Molly O’Toole’s investigation into this bizarre ranking on page eight, and see for yourself why rankings exist, and you decide whether or not they matter. But this week’s Eclipse reminds us of the many other things we have to be proud of at Cornell, from the delicious ice cream that abounds in Ithaca (see Cheap Dates) to our medical school in Qatar in the new Notes from Qatar feature.

We hope that the new Eclipse is just one more thing to be proud of at Cornell. We hope that you like all of the new content, and the new format (which makes it a lot easier to turn the pages in class discreetly, trust me!). Look for us every Friday, and let me know what you think at eclipse@cornellsun.com.

Cheers,

Leigha
