Self Defense, Scuba and Swedish Massage
From the Eclipse Editor
October 2, 2008 - 11:00pmThe list of physical education courses at Cornell is, to say the least, overwhelming. Friends of mine have sweated their way through 8 a.m. aerobics, afternoon boot camp sessions and weekend-long massage classes. Others have learned how to shoot guns, hiked the Ithaca trails and improved their sailing performance with “The Winning Mindset: Psychology of Athletic Success.”
While you may or may not have completed your athletic requirements, every student, regardless of college or major, has to complete two semesters of physical education. When and why was this requirement added? What classes are offered, and what do they involve? And what, exactly, is “The Art of Living”? Find out more about the physical education program in this week’s Eclipse feature, and read about some of the quirkier classes offered by the university.
Also in Eclipse this week, read business columnist Barbara Borozan’s impressions of the financial crisis, or, on a lighter note, some clever ideas for inexpensive dates that celebrate the autumn weather. In the events calendar, check out what is going on between meetings and prelims this week, or check out your horoscope for this week.
Either way, let us know what you think at eclipse@cornellsun.com, and if you would like to see your name in these pages, be in touch: we’re looking for writers.
Cheers,
Leigha Kemmett
