Harvard sweep's season series against Red

Body:

In arguably its worst defensive effort of the season, the men’s basketball team fell to Harvard for the second time this season, 85-79, on Friday night. Despite receiving a career-high 24 points from freshman Ryan Wittman, the Red were outscored 48-36 in the second half, as the Crimson shot 53.4 percent for the game, including over 55 percent after intermission.

Gymnastics Heads to Rutgers for Dual Meet

This weekend, the gymnastics team will travel to compete against Rutgers try to continue its strong performance during the year. Recently, the Red has recorded three straight runner-up finishes and has continued to improve all season. Last week, the Red had its highest score of the year with a 190.600 at the Ivy Classic, but it lost to Penn, one of its ECAC rivals.

Fencing Team Finishes Season at IFA Championships

Coming off a strong performance at the second round robin round of the Ivy League championships, the fencing team heads south to Lawrenceville, N.J., this weekend to compete in the Intercollegiate Fencing Association championships.

After winning the B division at Nationals and completing the last team match of the season on a high note, the men’s and women’s squash teams will face another challenge this weekend at the NISRA Individual championships.

Red’s Polo Teams Host Toronto Club Squads

Whoever said non-regional games don’t matter has never been to a Red polo practice. Both the men’s and women’s squads have been dissecting film and talking strategy throughout the week in preparation for matches against two seasoned Toronto club teams.

Cornell looks for wins over Buffalo, Stony Brook

Body:

The men’s and women’s tennis teams are looking to keep their winning streaks alive this weekend, as the Red hosts Buffalo and Stony Brook at Reis Tennis Center.

The women will take on the Bulls at 9 a.m. tomorrow and the Seawolves Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. On Sunday, the men will take the court against Buffalo and Stony Brook at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. as well.

Wrestling Seeks Title at EIWA Championships

After months of practicing on the mats of the Friedman wrestling center and competing in tournaments and dual meets all over the country, the wrestling team has finally reached the moment it has been waiting for all season long, the postseason. The Red — who traveled to East Stroudsburg, Pa., yesterday — will compete in the EIWA championships all day today and tomorrow for a chance to capture its third EIWA title during head coach Rob Koll’s tenure as a Cornell coach and its first since 1993. Just two weeks later the squad will head to the NCAA national championships in Detroit, Mich., for a chance to place in the top-5 nationally for the third consecutive year.

Men’s showdown draws sell-out crowd to Cornell sophomore’s hometown

Body:

Even though the men’s lacrosse team will play its first road game of the season tomorrow afternoon, the game will be a homecoming for one member of the No. 4 Cornell squad. The game, which is against No. 8 Notre Dame, will be held at a neutral site in Hewlett, N.Y., the hometown of sophomore Max Seibald.

Five seniors play final home games against Harvard, Dartmouth

Body:

Heading into its final weekend of the season, the men’s basketball team has nothing to lose in the Ivy League standings. With a solid hold on third place, the only direction for the Red to move is up when it welcomes Harvard and Dartmouth to Newman Arena. With a lot of help — in the form of three straight losses by Penn and a Princeton victory over Yale — it could even earn a share of the Ivy League title.

Women rely on pitching for Ivy League championship hopes

Body:

After a season in which the softball team finished one game out of first place, the Red will begin its quest tomorrow to dethrone two-time Ivy League defending champion Princeton. The 2007 season begins this weekend with the George Mason Classic in Virginia. The Red will play four games in two days, including two games against Niagara along with games against Central Connecticut and host George Mason. Blood is concerned about the adjustment to fielding outdoors, as the team has been practicing indoors all winter.
