Kirstjen Nielsen Nominated as Homeland Security Secretary

Kirstjen Nielsen, the longtime aide to chief of staff John Kelly, has just been nominated by President Donald Trump to head the Department of Homeland Security. The announcement happened on Wednesday. The White house chose Nielsen for her expertise "in the areas of homeland security policy and strategy, cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, and emergency management." Nielsen served in the White House under the George W. Bush administration. The Homeland Security Department's top job has been vacant since July.
